Friday. A black day.

For one reason. I have just finished book 14 of Wheel of Time. I have been reading each volume (when it came out in paperback) since the first one in 1990. Now that is what you call an epic novel.

Apart from that ( in fact while I was listening to the above as an audiobook ) I have been filling the skip and cutting the grass. And getting incredibly hot.

Thursday. A black day.

For two reasons -
1. Painting the roof of the garden house black. I was not unlike a cat on a hot tin roof.
2. The Internet went away. For twenty four hours! We had to wait or a new router to arrive. Which is why this posting is late.

A wet day.

Not the weather but me - there is a leak in my waders ( dear Liza , dear Liza)
Today was clearing the ponds day. Nasty green scum and far too many self seeded plants. Plus moving livestock about - tadpoles from the big pond to the long pond and baby goldfish from the lawn pond to the long pond and the duck pond.

A half day....

I spent the morning weeding all the flowerbeds - and discovering all sorts of plants that were getting overshadowed by bigger ones. And finding areas tat are getting on just fine.

The afternoon was spent entertaining a couple who have moved in further up the hill. We called in few days after they had moved in. They have a similar task to us - rescuing an overgrown and neglected garden. They came to see what can be done with time. And effort.

Skippedy doo dah and yes it has been a wonderful day.

Back to work. Oops. Sorry workers. It's not really work more like filling the time! We have been away for a month in Northern Spain - the blog is on
http://travelsinrosiemay.blogspot.co.uk/
We have been cutting grass and weeding mainly for the last few days. Kate has done splendid work in the polytunnel and the greenhouse.

I have just sat on the mower going round and round. Then straight for a while. Then round and round again.

Today was meant to be more weeding but a skip turned up unexpectedly - well early rather than unexpected. So we set to and cleared out the junk piles that had accumulated and junk furniture etc.

The garden is looking good - everyone should buy a packet of Poached Egg flower seeds - I did three years ago and they just seed themselves around.

And the little Phlox Subulata is trying to take over the garden!

And another little job is to prepare Jeepers for its bid to retain no 1 position in the school go-cart championship.

A good year for lupins.

It looks as if the lupins will be spectacular again this year.

Work today included planting Virginia creeper against the garage to cover the breezeblocks and covering the bank with membrane - when I create new beds in the football field the turf will be moved to here.

Still finding time to stand a stare....

But gardening really.

Hostas appearing - but don't tell the slugs.

So showy.

Leech - this is why I wear wellies in the pond.

Rock plants planted on the terrace.

Gardening day

Working through the drizzle to get the garden shipshape - or gardenshape anyway.
Lots of planting and weeding.

Today's surprise guest....

This splendid redpoll appeared on the bird table at lunchtime, joined soon after by two others. First time for us here.

And here on the table with siskins and a goldfinch.

More work at Glyncoed

But we came back for lunch in time to see this goosander land on the pond and watched it as it dived and swam under water.

Catch up time.

Not a lot happening in the garden as it has been wet and windy. Some repair work at Glyncoed - including a new gate.

A bed base and a sofa frame have been recycled to firewood.

And a new pictures and two new chairs have arrived.
