Tis’ the Season...

Tis’ the Season to be inside somewhere warm. The power went out for a few hours, the phone went out for a week and we hardly went out at all. There is still a little snow at the front of the house but generally it is just cold now. No outside work is getting done but some modelling has occurred.

Christmas will be on us soon and the New Year will follow. We saw the first signs of snowdrops today so Spring will surely come.  Wonderful sunset this evening.

Snow!

“Euston, we have a problem!” (Sorry, railway modellers joke) Snow! All around us. About 8”in parts of the garden. But, to catch up.  We went to the village Christmas dinner.
We went to a Quaker lunch in Brecon.
We had a little bit of snow.
And then we had a lot of snow. On Sunday the power was off for four hours and we are still without our phone.

And some progress on the Station Master’s house.

Catching up.

It has been an odd few days. The weather has not been good but i have mainly been indoors. Lots of Quaker work going in at the moment.  But i did get some work done on the wood shed, covering the joints between panels and fitting a corrugated iron skirt to stop rabbits etc tunneling in.

I have volunteered to help with a local Nativty activity which is taking place on Twelth Night. It is based at Capel Gosen which sits directly under the Cynghordy viaduct.
And talking of railways. I have been working on the first building for the Aussie layout. This is the real building and the model so far.

And now with added hinges.

Now the window shutters open and close.
And ledges for the swallows to nest on. They used to try to stick their nest to the wooden walls but they usually fell off.
We probably have the only carpeted wood shed in Wales. These are the original carpets from the house.
The autumn sun casts long shadows.
There was a little time to work on the cliffs for the back of the Australian layout.
The best moment of the day didn’t get photographed - i disturbed a barn owl that was taking a rest from the cold in the tractor shed.

A better day.

The weather is much improved today so progress has been made on the stable that we are now calling the wood shed.  This is the view from the wood shed.
New door has been fitted and shutters for the window.

But it was cold this morning, with frost all around.

A busy weekend!

I went to the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday to the Warley Model Railway Show. Lots of layout and lots of suppliers.

On Sunday we headed for NT Dynefwr for a walk and a look at the wildlife.

Today has been wet but some repairs on the little red tractor got done. The mud around the stables is quite impressive now as well.

A busy week.

A week full of appointments, visits and Quaker things. And lots of rain. So today was the first time i was able to get back to the roof of the stable. All the roofing sheets are now on and fixed down.

With luck and good weather it may get finished next week.

Big sisters.

My two big sisters have been here for a few days which has halted work on the stables.  Fortunately the kingfisher and the sparrowhawk made appearances so we had something to look at. I didn’t manage to get the sparowhawk but i did manage a few shots of the kingfisher.

Roofing.

More progress on the roof, now ready to take the corrugated steel. And adding covering strips to the front elevation. Eventually there will be doors.

The overhang is to give the sheep a little bit of cover in the rain.

Fiddler on the roof.

The sun shone today so i was able to cut the rafters and battens for the corrugated steel roof.

End wall.

More progress, getting the panels fitted on the back wall and work on the end wall.

Back to the front.

A Quaker day on wednesday and so today i was back to working on the stable, getting the front looking how it will end up.
Until rain stopped play.
The end of the rainbow landed right on the polytunnel!
