Sunsets and visitors.

Roger and Judith are here enjoying a glorious sunset which now gets reflected in the pond again.

Autumn jobs.

It's that time of year again.

Some gardening..

Some work on the layout

And in the pond..... When I did all the work cleaning it I was disappointed not to see any fish and assumed the heron had had them all. But today I saw a shoal of about twenty black goldfish.
They don't show up well in photos.

Pond work.

The last two days have been spent in the pond. It was due for a major clear out as I have just dabbled around the edges for the last couple of years. So it was out with the hedge trimmer ( it works really well as an underwater scythe ) then trimming everything in sight.

It as also time to harvest the butternut squashes and the pumpkins. Not so many as last year!

It rained!

I had almost forgotten what rain was like. So no work in the pond today which was good news for the kitchen. The paintwork needed refreshing.

Then out to the shed where I started on the first baseboard for the new layout.

Also working on another section on the existing layout... I will have to come up with some names for the two layouts for easy reference.

Back in the garden.

After a few days of faffing when not a lot got done for various reasons I was back to the garden with a vengeance today. Well the pond in fact. In the past I have just trimmed the tops but this time I got right down and pulled out the roots too to give the water a chance.

Hay making.

Not really hay, but gathering up all the cut grass from the meadow.

Autumn mists.

I completed the strimming of the meadow today.

There are still lots of flowers around even though we have had mild frosts for several nights.

Building a better mousetrap!  I emptied several bins yesterday and this morning I found these two had been a little too adventurous. I released them down by the stables.

It's alive!

I set up the track temporarily to test the DCC system on a long run. It works as expected - so odd to have two trains running round the same track and being able to control them individually.

I was playing trains as the drive belt for the strimmer has not arrived yet.
So I chopped kindling instead.

Working.

Cutting the hay meadow today..

Until the drive belt broke!

Moved various tubs to their winter home..

And admired the flowers that are still around..

Progress in the Shed!

Today the hole in the back wall got filled in ( it was a door to a caged area for the mad dogs they used to keep ), the ceiling got fitted and I started painting. So busy, busy.

Work continues...

Work continues on the garage, building shelves and sorting stuff.

But, as we know, all work and no playing with trains makes Jack a dull boy. So this is the test track for testing and programming DCC trains.

A week later.....

I don't seem to be here much lately! But we should be resident for a while now.
After the week in the Cotswolds visiting neighbours, visiting Slimbridge and doing some shopping we went to a family baptism on Sunday..
Here are some photos..

Today I have been working in the workshop building the wall that will make the area where the lathe is smaller and what was the garage bigger. This is to make more room for train layouts!
