Hot day.

Whew. Summer is here.
Making a new flowerbed in the football field.

And putting the turf on the long pond bank

A young heron has adopted us and appears regularly - I suspect he is after the baby frogs. He has taken to perching on things and looks like a long necked peacock.

Is there anything worse.....

than painting a ceiling?

Yes. Painting a wooden ceiling! We have decided we want more lightness of being in the sitting room so the ceiling are being painted. But with gloss paint that drips! (Satinwood actually).

A day indoors.

Rain today so I spent the day working on a new site for the local History Group.

Just another day.

Most of my day was spent planting forty broom plants - grown from seed - as part of the hedge between the football field and the sheep field.

A certain amount of time was spent admiring the lupins....

And the rest of the day was spent picking caterpillars off the gooseberry bushes - last year they ate every leaf so this time I am trying to thwart them!

Friday. A black day.

For one reason. I have just finished book 14 of Wheel of Time. I have been reading each volume (when it came out in paperback) since the first one in 1990. Now that is what you call an epic novel.
http://www.dragonmount.com/Books/index.php

Apart from that ( in fact while I was listening to the above as an audiobook ) I have been filling the skip and cutting the grass. And getting incredibly hot.

Thursday. A black day.

For two reasons -
1. Painting the roof of the garden house black. I was not unlike a cat on a hot tin roof.
2. The Internet went away. For twenty four hours! We had to wait or a new router to arrive. Which is why this posting is late.

A wet day.

Not the weather but me - there is a leak in my waders ( dear Liza , dear Liza)
Today was clearing the ponds day. Nasty green scum and far too many self seeded plants. Plus moving livestock about - tadpoles from the big pond to the long pond and baby goldfish from the lawn pond to the long pond and the duck pond.

A half day....

I spent the morning weeding all the flowerbeds - and discovering all sorts of plants that were getting overshadowed by bigger ones. And finding areas tat are getting on just fine.

The afternoon was spent entertaining a couple who have moved in further up the hill. We called in few days after they had moved in. They have a similar task to us - rescuing an overgrown and neglected garden. They came to see what can be done with time. And effort.

Skippedy doo dah and yes it has been a wonderful day.

Back to work. Oops. Sorry workers. It's not really work more like filling the time! We have been away for a month in Northern Spain - the blog is on
http://travelsinrosiemay.blogspot.co.uk/
We have been cutting grass and weeding mainly for the last few days. Kate has done splendid work in the polytunnel and the greenhouse.

I have just sat on the mower going round and round. Then straight for a while. Then round and round again.

Today was meant to be more weeding but a skip turned up unexpectedly - well early rather than unexpected. So we set to and cleared out the junk piles that had accumulated and junk furniture etc.

The garden is looking good - everyone should buy a packet of Poached Egg flower seeds - I did three years ago and they just seed themselves around.

And the little Phlox Subulata is trying to take over the garden!

And another little job is to prepare Jeepers for its bid to retain no 1 position in the school go-cart championship.
