Working on the bike shed.

I have made the shed more waterproof and more secure. And more attractive too when it is finished.

Sheep may safely graze.

Neville the builder has brought some Dorset sheep to graze our field. Four boys and a girl. They seem to have settled in.

We're having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave.

Hot hot hot. But work must go on. Pathway and bridge under the tree house.

Friday, March 23, 2012

Simply wonderful.

The view from my blogging chair.

Building bridges.

The next job is to put a more permanent bridge across the stream by the tree house - we put a plank there ages ago and it has lasted well. So now there is something more permanent.

Growing trees.

When I put alder/willow logs into the pond to form the island they promptly sprouted roots and grew. So I have cut some branches and submerged them in the hope that they will take root - I want to put a hedge where there is a fence.

Gardening day.

The wildflower meadow seed arrived so the slope has been seeded. Also arrived lots of wildflower plugs and seeds. So the plugs have potted on and some of the seeds sown. Lots of the seeds planted by Steph and Bella are coming up now.
The triangular bed has had a dressing of manure and lots of plants added.
And a new bed for a cherry tree.

Progress.....

Mistle Thrush

This thrush turned up in the garden today. We thought it was taking frogs from the pond but it was after nesting material.

The next task.....

Is to turn the triangular bed into a flower bed. It was created in haste to take the shrubs moved from the lawn area. The shrubs have all taken and the three trees planted there are doing well. But so is the grass and the weeds. So first task is to de-nail the old fence posts to reuse as edging. Then to weed it, dig it and plant it up with ground cover.

Gardening again.

Putting in the shrub hedge along the roadside and planting up more perennials in the flower borders.

End of a long job!

It seems to have been a job that took forever but I have finally finished levelling out the ground below the terrace. We have wild flower meadow grass seed on order to reseed with.

A glorious day in the garden.

Moving soil, mowing lawns. The goldfish were active again, a frog was being very vocal and butterflies are flying.

Photos from our Gower weekend

Photos from the Gower and Oxwych Bay weekend - click here.

A day with RosieMay.

Cleaning her up after a stay on a muddy site which included getting stuck and being pulled out by a 4x4. Also a short list of bug fixes found over the weekend.

Great excitement!!

The spring air has got to the goldfish. All day long they have been doing what comes naturally - breeding that is. So we should have baby fish in due course.

Friendly natives!

We stopped for a picnic on the Black Mountain and were visited by a herd of ponies.

A very pleasant weekend on the Gower.

Lovely weather. Lovely sunset.

A poor life this!!

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
William Henry Davies
Actually we sat and stared. On the gardeners bench. For an hour in the sunshine. Kate had been walking with Audrey and I had been cleaning ditches and ponds. But the afternoon sun was so warm it was like mid-summer. Lovely.
Clearing the pond weed.
Before.

After.
